Nature, in the broadest sense, is the natural, physical, or material world or universe. "Nature" can refer to the phenomena of the physical world, and also to life in general. The study of nature is a large part of science. Although humans are part of nature, human activity is often understood as a separate category from other natural phenomena.Within the various uses of the word today, "nature" often refers to geology and wildlife. Nature can refer to the general realm of living plants and animals, and in some cases to the processes associated with inanimate objects – the way that particular types of things exist and change of their own accord, such as the weather and geology of the Earth
My Pinterest research board
First photos
These are my first set of photographs for the theme. I like them but i also think i could of taken some more for my first set. I like the one with the glass on it because it blends into the floor. Also i like the first one with the logs this is because i like the way you can see a bit of grass in the background.
Letha Wilson
Myoung Ho Lee
Karl Blossfeldt
Blossfeldt made many of his photographs with a home made camera. Most of his photos were natural structures. He was never once formally trained in the art of photography. Also he developed a series of home cameras that allowed him to photograph in detail where he repeated patterns and textures.
Photos #2
My final design idea.
These are pictures by Andy Goldsworthy who decided to throw sticks in the air so that they could be photographed against the sky.
My response
I tried to do the shoot outdoors but I wasn't happy with the confusing backgrounds in some shots. I decided to make leaf shaped pieces of paper from my leaf photographs so that I could take them into the studio to shoot against a black background. I set up the lights so that I could be seen clearly and chose a slower shutter speed so that some of the leaves would llok as though they were moving.
Unit 1 Evaluation
For unit one I researched different photographers for inspiration, such as Letha Wilson, Karl Blossfeldt, Myoung Ho Lee. I research these photographers to get ideas and to see what techniques they use and to see if I could use there ideas and help make my final piece. One photographer's work I really like was Andy Goldsworthy, I like his work because its different and abstract, He chucks different objects in the air and someone takes the picture also I like it because all the backgrounds that he takes his photo with has nice lighting or the background is unusual. I also like Letha Wilson this is because her pictures stood out when I was looking through to get ideas they stood out because they are abstract each picture has got something poured onto the photographs of nature. Some have even got cement on them and some have spray paint on them.
I have explored three different three different themes in Unit 1. These were abstraction, the natural world and street photography. I enjoyed abstraction the most because you can be abstract with anything and everything.
